Healthcare Reform: Dependent Care Coverage Up to Age 26
Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius requested that leading health insurance companies begin to voluntarily cover young adults before the September 23 implementation date required by the new health care reform law. This will help all who are involved by saving money and time dis-enrolling and re-enrolling those young adults affected between May 2010 and September 2010. Major health insurance companies throughout the country have agreed to heed Secretary Sebelius' request. BCBS will keep young adults up to age 26 who are currently enrolled on their parents insurance, enrolled. BCBS is waiting for final regulations to be presented by Health and Human Services before enrolling young adults up to age 26 not enrolled on the plan. MEBS will follow the lead of BCBS and notify you of more information as it becomes available.
