August/September 2011 e-news Study shows increase in health insurance mandates covered by states in 2010 States have increased the number of health insurance mandates covered from 2,133 in 2009 to 2,156 in 2010, per the Council for Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI) study. Under the study, a health insurance mandate requires an insurance company or health plan cover (or offer coverage for) specific health care providers, benefits, or patient populations. Some of the mandates required to be covered in Michigan and Ohio are: - Benefits for Alcoholism/Substance Abuse, Emergency Room Service, Off-Label Drug Use
