W-2 Reporting of Employer-Sponsored Coverage Delayed - March 29, 2011

The IRS issued guidance providing relief for small employers (those filing less than 250 W-2 forms) by making the reporting of employees cost of their employer-sponsored group health plan coverage optional for 2012 and until further guidance is issued. 


Vermont moves forward on health care "public option" - Thursday, March 24, 2011 

While many states are suing to prevent the Healthcare Reform (HCR) administration's expansion of health insurance, Vermont is moving in the opposite direction.  On March 24, 2011, the state House of Representatives approved legislation that eventually could allow every Vermont resident to obtain state-paid health insurance by a vote of 92-49.  This legislation now moves to the Senate for a vote.     


Guidance Extending Certain Healthcare Reform (HCR) Claims Appeal Process requirements -        Friday, March 18, 2011 

The Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Treasury (the Departments) recently extended and modified the enforcement grace period for certain HCR internal and external claims appeal process requirements until plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2012. 

This modified and extended enforcement grace period is based on a review of the comments and feedback received on the HCR rule for the claims appeal process.  The Departments intend to issue an amendment to modify certain HCR claims appeal process provisions in the near future based on the comments and feedback received on this rule.
Florida Senate passes proposed constitutional amendment - Healthcare Reform -             Wednesday, March 9, 2011 

The Florida Senate approved a proposed constitutional amendment allowing the state to opt out of the Healthcare Reform (HCR) law mandating individuals purchase health insurance by a vote of 29-10.  The proposed constitutional amendment will now go to the House for review.  If it is passed in the House, it would be placed on the 2011 ballot and need 60% of the votes to be added to the constitution.  We will continue monitoring this proposed constitutional amendment.
