Healthcare Insurance Reform Update Reimbursement of Over-the-Counter Medicines Starting January 1, 2011, non-prescribed over-the-counter medicines will no longer be eligible without a letter of medical necessity for FSA and HRA accounts. The items affected include items in the following categories:
| Acid Controllers | Diaper Rash
| Laxatives | | Allergy & Sinus | Cold Sore
| Motion Sick | | Antibiotics | Cough, Cold, Flu | Pain Relief | | Anti-Diarrheal | Digestive Aids | Respiratory
| | Anti-Gas | Anti-Fungal/Itch | Sleep Aids
| Anti-Itch
| Hemorrhoid Prep
| Stomach Aids
| Antiparasitic

Please be advised that these items may still be reimbursable; however, the participant will be required to obtain a letter of medical necessity from their provider in order to be able to submit it as eligible under their plan. The letter of medical necessity MUST include: date, patient name, specific diagnosis, recommended treatment/product, an explanation of how the treatment will alleviate the diagnosis, length of treatment required (not to exceed 12 months), and the provider's information including their name, address, phone number, and signature. Non-medicinal over-the-counter items (such as bandages, contact lens solution, etc.) will remain reimbursable through an FSA and HRA account without a letter of medical necessity. Contribution Limitations to FSA Accounts Starting January 1, 2013, salary reduction contributions to an FSA account will be limited to $2,500 per year. This amount will be adjusted annually based on inflation.
